A positive base 10 number can be subtracted from another, following the steps below.

• 

  If the minuend and subtrahend have different number of digits, prepend zeros to the shorter one till the number of digits become equal.

• 

  Add the minuend to the 9's complement of the subtrahend.

  • 

    If the result has an extra digit (end carry), discard it. Add 1 to the remaining part of the sum.

  • 

    If the result does not have an end carry, take the 9's complement of the sum.

    Put a minus sign in front.
