### DIGITAL SYSTEMS CALCULATORS

SOLUTION STEPS

The Last Step:

162s place:

Convert the numbers in 162s place to decimal and add them.

216 = 210

210 = 216

Write 2 to the 162s place.

All Steps:

16–3s place:

Convert the numbers in 16–3s place to decimal and add them.

A16 + B16 = 1010 + 1110 = 2110

Write 5 to the 16–3s place. Carry 1 to the 16–2s place.

2110 = 1516

16–2s place:

Convert the numbers in 16–2s place to decimal and add them.

116 + E16 + 216 + 416 = 110 + 1410 + 210 + 410 = 2110

Write 5 to the 16–2s place. Carry 1 to the 16–1s place.

2110 = 1516

16–1s place:

Convert the numbers in 16–1s place to decimal and add them.

116 + D16 + 816 + A16 + 716 = 110 + 1310 + 810 + 1010 + 710 = 3910

Write 7 to the 16–1s place. Carry 2 to the 160s place.

3910 = 2716

160s place:

Convert the numbers in 160s place to decimal and add them.

216 + F16 + 416 + 716 + C16 = 210 + 1510 + 410 + 710 + 1210 = 4010

Write 8 to the 160s place. Carry 2 to the 161s place.

4010 = 2816

161s place:

Convert the numbers in 161s place to decimal and add them.

216 + 616 + C16 + E16 = 210 + 610 + 1210 + 1410 = 3410

Write 2 to the 161s place. Carry 2 to the 162s place.

3410 = 2216

162s place:

Convert the numbers in 162s place to decimal and add them.

216 = 210

Write 2 to the 162s place.

210 = 216

## INFORMATION Write down the hexadecimal numbers so that the same places are aligned vertically. Add numbers from right to left, digit by digit. Optionally, convert the numbers in each place to decimal and add them. Convert the result back to hexadecimal. For every digit, check if the hexadecimal sum has one or more digits. In any case, write the ones digit of the result under the numbers to the same column. If the result has more than one digit, remove the ones digit and carry the rest to the next digit.
